Snoring vs. Sleep Apnea

They're not the same thing, and the difference matters

Simple (primary) snoring is noise. Tissue vibrates, it's loud, and it disrupts your partner's sleep and sometimes your own. On its own it isn't usually dangerous.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is different. Your airway repeatedly collapses during sleep and you stop breathing — sometimes dozens of times an hour. Untreated OSA is associated with high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and daytime accidents. It is a medical condition that requires medical treatment.

Signs you should see a doctor

  • Someone has witnessed you stop breathing, gasp, or choke during sleep
  • You wake unrefreshed most mornings despite enough hours in bed
  • You're sleepy during the day, or you've nodded off while driving
  • Morning headaches, or waking with a dry mouth or sore throat
  • High blood pressure that's difficult to control

If any of that sounds familiar, ask your doctor about a sleep study. Home tests are widely available now and far less involved than they used to be.

Alivion Hush is not a treatment for sleep apnea

It is not FDA-cleared for apnea, we do not claim it treats apnea, and it is not a substitute for CPAP, an oral appliance, or anything else a clinician has prescribed you.

If you currently use CPAP, do not stop. Not for a week, not as a trial. Talk to your doctor before changing prescribed therapy. Some people use a snoring aid alongside treatment — that's a conversation to have with your clinician, not with a product page.

We would rather lose a sale than have someone put their heart at risk because of something they read on our site.
